Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)
CUI is one of the most costly and deceptive forms of corrosion in industrial environments. It occurs when moisture becomes trapped beneath thermal insulation systems, leading to aggressive corrosion on the underlying pipework, vessels, or structural components, often without any visible signs until significant damage has already occurred.
At BGB Group, we specialise in identifying, preventing, and remediating Corrosion Under Insulation across a wide range of sectors, including offshore wind, oil and gas, power generation and petrochemical plants.
Services include:
Inspection & Detection
Including visual and infrared thermography, ultrasonic thickness testing, pulsed eddy current scanning, insulation removal for targeted assessment.
Surface Preparation
Including mechanical or abrasive blast cleaning (Sa2.5 or ST3), removal of all rust and corrosion by-products, NDT to assess remaining wall thickness.
Protective Coating Application
Including application of NORSOK M-501 compliant coatings, specialist CUI-resistant systems (e.g. epoxy phenolic), stripe coating of welds, edges and support brackets.
Re-Insulation & Sealing
Including installation of new cellular glass or mineral wool insulation, water-tight vapor barriers and cladding systems, NORSOK-approved sealants to ensure longevity, stainless steel banding and riveted seams to resist ingress.
Ongoing Monitoring
Including planned inspection schedules, smart insulation solutions (optional), maintenance-ready designs for future access.
