With over 95,000 miles of coastline and a power demand of 4,000 terawatt-hours of electricity every year, it’s no surprise that the United States has been exploring the massive potential of offshore wind. And here at BGB Group Global, we’re proud to say that we have a presence on every single windfarm currently operating, or near completion, in the country.

A stormy ride

Offshore wind has experienced a stormy time of late in the United States, with the new Trump administration shaking up the industry on a number of fronts. The previous Biden administration had an ambitious target of 30GW of offshore wind energy by 2030, however the new administration does not appear to share this enthusiasm.

For example, the $5bn Empire Wind Project, off the coast of New York was initially halted, before finally being allowed to proceed at the end of May 2025. A number of other projects in federal waters face an equally uncertain future.

While the current administration may be wavering in its support of offshore wind, the support from BGB remains rock solid. BGB will continue to provide state of the art offshore scaffolding solutions to projects all around the American coast, delivering access, inspections and more to keep the turbines turning.

Offshore wind in the United States

There are currently three main offshore wind farms operating in the US, Block Island Wind, Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind and South Fork. Two of these lie within Rhode Island state waters, prompting BGB to open a subsidiary company, BGB Renewables, based in Providence, Rhode Island, to service these farms.

Also under construction, using BGB’s offshore scaffolding services, are Vineyard Wind, off Massachusetts, Revolution Wind, off Rhode Island, and Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind, off Virginia.

“America is a notable area of expansion for us,” BGB managing director, Ben Bradham told Insider Media back in January 2024. “We are delighted to be involved with the Vineyard and Ørsted’s South Fork commercial-scale offshore wind farms, the first two to be constructed there.” Since then, BGB has provided offshore scaffolding and other services on every single American offshore wind project.

More than just a name

BGB Group Global is more than just a name; it’s a statement about the remarkable growth of the company. From humble beginnings in North Wales, BGB has now grown to be a truly global enterprise, with bases in both America and Taiwan, and new operations in Australia.

We are a trusted supply chain partner to Ørsted, the world’s largest wind energy developer, and supply offshore scaffolding services to all of their offshore wind projects across the globe.

Part of a growing global wind economy

Whatever the prevailing political wind stateside, there is no doubt that in the end wind energy is here to stay across the world. It is an essential part of the fight against climate change and the drive to Net Zero. Despite the rallying call to ‘drill, baby, drill’, the US still has plans, at various stages, for almost twenty more wind farms, from Maryland to Massachusetts, New Jersey to North Carolina, including inland offshore wind plans for the Great Lakes.

Here at BGB, we’re ready to help all of these projects, with an experienced, expert team of offshore scaffolding technicians, safety specialists and IRATA rope access crews. From initial construction and commissioning of substations, to ongoing turbine blade inspections, BGB can deliver all the access services you need to make your wind farms safer, simpler to construct and more productive.
